What Services Do We Offer?

WHAT SERVICES WE DO OFFER?

The AWSU offers free tutoring to all UPM students working on academic writing at any stage of their writing processes. Services are offered with online and face-to-face options. However, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the AWSU will be fully online for Semester 1, 2020/2021. No walk-ins will be offered during this semester.

We are now offering two types of online tutoring:

1. Zoom Tutoring
2. Email Tutoring

Tutoring sessions focus on giving constructive feedback as well as giving advice on academic writing, and it is important to note that the writing tutors will not be editing or writing for the students.

Students can expect to receive help in:

• paragraph structure
• organisation of ideas
• sentence level issues
• developing arguments
• spelling & punctuation
• overall delivery of a paper
• developing style of writing
• structure of the assignment
• coherence, syntax & grammar
• strategies for editing and proof-reading

Writing tutors WILL NOT

• help in finding information or referencing
• write any part of a paper for the students
• edit, proofread or translate students’ work
• advise on the subject content of an assignment
• go through drafts and mark or correct all of the errors
