CALC stands for Centre for the Advancement of Language Competence.
Centre for the Advancement of Language Competence (formerly known as Language Extension Centre) was established during the 560th Senate Meeting on the 8 December 2011.
CALC has moved to a new building in April 2014. We are situated near the Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication.
CALC is tasked with the implementation of language proficiency courses for UPM students. CALC's English Language instructors teach courses under the English Language Experience (ELEx) package, a bold new approach in English Language Teaching and Learning. CALC's Malay and Global Language instructors teaches various languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish and many more. In addition CALC also offers professional services such as editing and translation, language extension courses and language testing services.

Yes, you do need to register for another Global Language under ELEx Package if you do not register for either LPE2402 or LPE2502 in one of the semesters specified in the ELEx Package. Please refer to CALC Academic Section for further assistance.
If you have not taken CEL2105, you can register for it first instead of CEL2106. However, if you have taken CEL2105, please consult the CALC Academic Section.
Students need to register for CEL2105 and CEL2106 courses by submitting an application through their respective faculties.
